Booking trips to Loaliang

If you would like to book a trip from Railay to Loaliang, fill out the booking form at the bottom of the page. This year the island is only open for bookings from November 20th 2009 so my advice is to book early! If you are booking between Nov 20th and Dec 15th there is an offer of either a free Sea View upgrade or a free snorkel tour.

Getting There
Your booking includes transport to Loaliang from Ao Nang. It is about a 15 minute boat ride from Railay beach to Ao Nang. It is best to arrange for an early pick up from Ao Nang (8:00am is the usual time). From Ao Nang it's about a 2 hour drive to boat pick up point. The boat ride to LaoLiang varies in time depending on which boat you get, which in turn is down to luck and the tide. A long tail or the dive boat take about an hour to an hour an a half. The speed boat, when it is running takes about 20 minutes.

Facilities
The facilities are good and well thought out. The tents are very luxurious, the bathrooms clean and nice. As can be seen from the pictures, the tents are surprisingly large. They consist of an anteroom, and a sleeping room. There are both singles and doubles available (singles pictured below). There is power in the tents, with electric lights and a fan.

LoaLiang island
The island itself is small. The area which you stay is made up of a long beach backed by limestone cliffs. The beach is your classic white sand welcome to paradise beach, the water clean and warm. There is reef right off the beach, which means that it is not possible to swim at low tide (you can walk out but it's a long way). The picture below shows a particularly low tide (must be a full moon). We did not see it this low, but you can always take a kayak and paddle out...

Kayaking and fishing
Kayaks are available to rent for 200 baht for 2 hours, so you can explore around this and the closer islands. The fishing is particularly good. The staff would often come back with huge trivelli which they would cook for dinner. To fish you just need to drag a line from behind your kayak, and be in the right spot. The fish can be rather large though, and have a tendency to break your line....

Snorkeling
You can help yourself to mask and fins. The snorkeling off the beach is ok, but if you take a kayak and have a little explore, you can find some really good spots.

Diving
There is supposed to be really good diving off the island. Personally I'm not a diver, but other people who went seemed impressed.

The trips will run from Ao Nang. Pick up is at 8:40am, at the corner of AoNang, at the white table in front of the traffic police box, next to the boat ticket office where you would have bought your boat ticket to Railay. If you are staying in Railay then you will have to get a boat yourself to Ao Nang (about a 15 minute boat ride from Railay Beach). It's a good idea to arrange your boat the previous evening.
